When I first got Bentley, my Australian Terrier turbo pup, I was overwhelmed. I bought and read several popular books about raising a puppy. I quickly noticed that much of the information was contradictory. One book suggested that I scold Bentley for house training mistakes, another advised me to stay calm.

One trainer told me to hold my puppy down (alpha roll) when he was play biting. That was a miserable failure because it just added jet fuel to his behaviors!

I was so frustrated with the conflict in advice, that I decided to enroll in a program about animal behavior and training. My area of focus was canine behavior modification, and dog training.

Now, 10 years later, after an extensive education program, I am a companion animal behavior counselor and trainer, with a specialization in canine behavior. I have worked with over 1,000 different puppies and dogs, a few horses, many house cats, a few birds, rabbits and ferrets. I know the tips that work. I understand why many of the suggestions for solving puppy troubles are less effective.
